Chanel Cruise 2027 Returns to Biarritz

Chanel returned to the windswept elegance of Biarritz this week for its Cruise 2026/2027 show, a homecoming that was long overdue.

A Heartfelt Homecoming

It was here, in 1915, that Coco Chanel established one of her earliest couture houses, quietly rewriting the rules of women’s fashion along the French Atlantic coast. More than a century later, the house revisited that same shoreline to reassert its foundations at a moment of creative transition, and possibly for nostalgia’s sake.

The set was understated but evocative: a beige carpet mimicking sand, with a horizon of sea and sky peeking through the back. Placing the focus all  on the clothes. As each look appeared, there was a clear dialogue between past and present through the lens of Matthieu Blazy, whose approach felt reverential toward the house’s venerable founder.

Blazy referenced Chanel’s early icons: the little black dress, the jersey cardigan, and overstated Double C motifs that branded swimsuits, silk sets, and raffia skirts—all in aligned with the coastal theme.

A signature Chanel print, originally designed by Chanel in the 1930s in black, white, beige, red, and pale blue, was revisited in look 25 with a deeper navy replacing the original blue. It gave the palette a nautical feel.

Chanel’s early Biarritz sportswear prioritized comfort and freedom, and Blazy continued that idea, with unstructured jackets, fluid skirts, and integrated decorative touches like lattice lace, gold-fringed coats, and gilded sandals.

Flapper references also appeared throughout. Where Chanel often used ribbons at the hip or neckline, Blazy leaned into dropped waists and horizontal detailing, creating a slightly more modern silhouette. The collection clearly embodied the house’s original intent: to translate the spirit of liberation and innovation into modern, wearable clothes for women.
